The Case of the Runaway Corpse" begins in a laboratory; they find arsenic in a sample. Mr. Ed Davenport suspects his wife has poisoned him, and previously her uncle. His wife sees Perry Mason about this situation, then they go to see her sick husband. But Ed died in spite of the doctor's aid. Perry Mason is authorized to get a letter from Ed Davenport's business office. The letter has only blank pages. Back at the motel the dead body has disappeared from the locked room! The police find a bottle of arsenic, Mrs. Davenport used it in her garden. Then they find Mr Davenport's body in a shallow grave! It looks bad for Myrna Davenport. But how did the poison get into Mr. Davenport? Or know to prepare the grave? Perry questions a witness and there is a surprising solution.
"The Case of the Gilded Lily" begins when a young woman returns to her apartment and finds her roommate unconscious, a sleeping pill bottle beside her. Arthur Binney arrives to see Mr. Brent on a personal matter. Binney wants $30,000 to keep a story out of his magazine. Brent met his wife in Las Vegas and quickly married her; he knew little about her past life. Brent will make the payoff. But there is a glitch in the plans. Brent finds a body at the motel. The money is gone, Brent's gun was fired. Perry Mason will defend Brent. There are complications in this story. Then a witness identifies a woman in court. There is a surprise ending that does not take place in court.
